I don't like this day.
Why do we find it necessary to have one day a year where we are expected to, and have permission to prank one another?
In fact, why do we have one particular day a year for everything?
Take Mother's Day for example. Apparently, this one day is dedicated to telling the woman who created you, carried you around for 9 months, went through a lot of pain to put you in the world, raised you, spent a fortune on you and went through a huge amount of stress for you that you love her.
Now I personally would like to think that the majority of people on this earth, out of those who have one anyway, tell their mothers that they love them on a daily basis - I know I do. That's the way it should be. So really, Mother's Day is a 'Hallmark Holiday ' for pretty much any retailer to increase their sales and in turn, profits.
Reverting back to the original point - why do we need one day on which to prank people?
A 'prank' is surely defined as a practical joke which is unexpected, spontaneous and, more often than not, humiliating to the victim. So doesn't the idea of having a day-or in fact only half of one-created to try and 'prank' your friends, colleagues, family and enemies seem completely futile to you, with all these awaiting victims on high alert just waiting for you to pounce? Of course it does.
On top of that all possibly forms of media in the modern world decide that they too must get involved in the fun and games. April 1st is the most untrustworthy day of the year. You can't read a newspaper, watch television, listen to the radio or, god help us, read an e-mail without the slightest element of doubt. On every single website I have logged on to today there has been some form of 'joke'. Youtube has turned all its video players up-side-down, devinantArt has changed its Beta tester icons to snowmen (I ask you, why?)...the list could be endless.
And then there's the added confusion. Sure, April Fool's Day finishes at noon - or does it? Some people continue all day, some stop and get angry if you continue some live in different time zones...no one needs this confusion - the world is messed up enough.
On the plus side, hello my dears, how are you today?
